There's been lots of great reviews for this anthology, but I couldn't resist putting up one more 5 star review from Romance Writers Reviews.

WOW! Love these stories, Scorching Hot and Super sexy! Each one was unique, but equally enjoyable…a great collection!

Captain of Nara’s Heart. This book had a very different storyline, very interesting. Characters were amazing; the chemistry between the characters was fantastic. The story was extremely well written; the author grabs your attention from first page and holds it until the last!

Dragon Heat. Love the characters, and storyline. The story had a perfect amount of suspense that kept the story very interesting. This story takes you on a very different journey, and you just don’t know what will happen until the very end.

Dangerous Addiction. HOT HOT HOT with lots of sexy details! The story is sexy and sweet with a positive message about finding happiness again, even after a bad experience.

Highland Tryst. Certainly not a typical romance story, characters were far fetch, but surprisingly almost believable. The story was sweet, interesting and very funny. It was interesting to compare our lifestyle to that of many many years ago.

Tattoo Witch. The story was Interesting and held my attention the entire time. It was a very hot and sexy. You just didn’t know what was going to happen. I certainly couldn’t predict what happened at the end…but was very happy with the ending.

The Addiction. I enjoyed this story very much; it was sweet, with an ending that will melt your heart.

Dexter!

After buying the full series of Dexter last Christmas, I'm totally blown away by the show, the skill of the writers, the amazing actors and most especially by 'Dexter' himself. He hides behind the mask of an unassuming blood splatter expert, while inside he feels no emotions and is a cold-blooded killer raised by his law enforcement stepdad to 'take care' of the people who don't deserve the oxygen they breathe.
Wow. What a premise! And just watching everything come undone around him before he somehow escapes the net that almost traps him as the 'true' killer, is just amazing.
I adore this show and if I had to rate it I would definitely give it a 10 out of 10 and a 'highly recommend to watch'

Guns ‘N’ Roses blared from inside nondescript apartment fourteen. She took a deep, calming breath as adrenaline surged within. She had him. At last her quarry was within reach. She raised a fist and hammered on the flimsy, peeling wooden door.

The music shut down. A baby wailed a few apartments down, a small dog yapping into life inside another. Heavy footsteps approached from the other side of the door.

“Yes.”

One word. One deep, masculine, primal intonation.

Her pulses jerked in response, her nipples beading tight beneath her black leather jacket and tight burgundy singlet.

If this is what he could do to a woman with one monosyllable behind a closed door, she could only imagine what he could do with a whole sentence, and up close and personal.

She cursed under her breath. She’d clearly been too long without a man, someone to ease the heavy ache of her breasts, the deep throb between her thighs. Just as well she wanted nothing more from him than answers.

Hesitating for a beat, she asked, “Mr. Powell?”

A long pause. “Maybe.”

Impatience drummed a loud tattoo behind her skull. A migraine was all she needed right now!

“I’m here on behalf of my father. He is—“ she swallowed back a wave of bitter loss and grief ”—was an archaeologist. You may have heard of him? Professor Thomas Leigh.” At the thick, almost suffocating silence that followed she continued more loudly, “He believed in the existence of human-panther shape-shifters—”

Her sentence ended on a startled gasp as the door flung open and she was jerked unceremoniously inside.

“Enough already,” Blake growled.

She hissed out a breath at the current of electricity sizzling through her arm’s every nerve ending; at the cheek of him dragging her inside. She tugged free, and looked up...and up.

Beneath scruffy dark jeans and a white t-shirt, the man was a mountain of fluid muscle and sinew, repressed energy that vibrated with emotion and patently raw sex appeal.

“Are you mad?” she said through gritted teeth. “All I wanted was a civilized discussion, not to be dragged inside like I’m nothing more than a cave woman!”

He slammed the door shut behind her and pushed home a large bolt. When he peeled off his dark sunglasses—ludicrous inside the near dark room lit only by a naked bulb—she took an involuntary step back. His eyes were an unnatural gold-yellow. Beautiful, but deadly.

She sucked in some oxygen, forcing a calm she didn’t feel. Damn it all to hell, he really was sinfully delicious, with more vague hints of darkness beneath his honey-warm skin that tantalized and teased even as it repelled.

“I know who you are,” he said.

I'm just now finishing the last couple of pages - 500 words or so - to my 2nd book in the Alien Hunger story, tentatively titled Galactic Inferno. I totally love this story and think what some readers didn't like in the first one, they'll love in this one BWG!!
After this is handed in, hopefully tomorrow!! I'm going to concentrate on the single title story - it will be finished this year. I've also started on a long length new series with a group of shape shifters - can't wait!!!!
Now...back to my last few pages with Nickleback blaring me into the finale LOL!

It's been so great to see some brilliant reviews for this anthology, and I'm stoked to be part of it with some even more brilliant authors =)

USA Today posted a very cool review for the book. Here is what reviewer, Lea Franczak said about Dragon Heat:

Dragon Heat by Mel Teshco is a paranormal romance about Grace Macintosh who is a top agent with the Paranormal Detection Agency. Grace is sent on a mission to apprehend Benson Marres, a billionaire recluse, suspected of being a rare dragon shifter (a Kezmak). Benson is a known womanizer, and Grace poses as a high-class prostitute to gain access to his penthouse.
I quite liked Teshco's characterization of Grace and Benson. The former is haunted by a troubled past, and the later is the last of his kind, struggling to survive. As it turns out, Benson knows what Grace is up to, having orchestrated her involvement in the mission. These two are inexorably drawn together by an instinctual need to mate. You see, unknown to Grace, she is a rare Kezmak breeder, and Benson needs her if there is any hope for the survival of his species.
Teshco weaves an intriguing subplot of manipulation and betrayal into this short story, which I felt was extremely well-crafted. Grace and Benson must flee for their lives from a skilled, highly trained enemy who is bent on their capture for nefarious purposes. Readers can expect plenty of action sequences, a very seductive dragon shifter and hot love scenes.

I go through stages with my writing where certain songs and/or bands helps me to push forward with my writing. (And then of course there's the times I need absolute silence to let the muse loose.)

For the last few books I've been having a Breaking Benjamin fest, I especially love their song, So Cold. And I just can't go past Muse, adore these guys. Most especially Bliss, Uprising, Undisclosed Desires, Resistance, Hysteria... the list goes on. But I should add my very favourite song from Muse: Unintended. I could sit and listen to that over and over (and have for this book lol!) OMG - LOVE their music =)

Identity Shift, review

Out of curiosity I decided a few months ago to join the long queue of authors to have a go at self publishing. I have little doubt IDENTITY SHIFT will be my only Indie book (aside from an anthology with other authors) but it was an interesting experience to say the least! (BTW, if anyone else loves the cover as much as I do and are looking for a cover or banner, check out HelzKat designs. She's very affordable.)

I've been very happy with the five stars I've seen on Goodreads and now a 4 star rating from Yadkney of Night Owl Reviews! Thank you =))

Action-packed, dangerous, sexy, and romantic – with words like those you'll definitely want to check out this new short by Mel Teshco.

Ducati riding, leather-clad Alexia is about to go on the ride of her life after leaving her father's burial service. The misgivings and unanswered questions surrounding her father's apparent suicide, drive her to hunt down the one man she knows can set the public memory of her father to rights. One look at Blake is all it takes to change everything, but before she can get answers they must first dodge the bullets being aimed at them.

After reading an excerpt, I was definitely excited to dive right in to this story only to be stopped a bit short by the page length. Ms. Teshco packs a lot into this story, but perhaps more length would've better fleshed out the characters and their individual stories. Regardless, it is enjoyable and leaves me wanting more of these characters, so my hope is that Ms. Teshco has plans to continue this story. If readers like their paranormal romance with a healthy dose of mystery and an instantaneous whirlwind romance, then this story is a must read!

Thank you to all the reviewers and readers who have loved this book. There's been such a lot of great feedback!=)
Just recently the anthology got a 5 ravens review from BlackRavens Reviews and a recommended read. Here's an overview:

This is the first erotic anthology I have read and I can barely express in words how much I enjoyed every story. The skillful writers made a fantastic team during the collaboration of their ideas. These authors blended together so well that the stories flowed seamlessly. The stories were off the chart in levels of heat generated sensuality. What a dynamic team of writers. They hare heavy hitters that knocked me for a loop. Their writing styles and depictions of the settings, characters and events put me in awe and deep appreciation of their talents. All of the tales were terrific and there were no duds in the group. Wow!!! This is volume one and I look forward to the next installment.
Reading this anthology introduced me to another group of authors who I will follow, read and invite others to share the sensual eruptions I encountered. Fabulous work everyone Bravo!!!!

Update and ramblings...

So 2011 is almost DONE!! I can hardly believe it! My children are all growing up WAY too fast (well, one is already grown up at 21 lol!!) my little grandson seems way too smart for his little boots - and I have another grandbaby on the way!!!!
To top it all off, I can scarcely comprehend that next year my eldest daughter (the pregnant one) will be far away from me, moving with her boyfriend to where he's been offered a job that's too good to knock back. A good 10 hours drive away.
Me thinks my car will doing a lot of km's!

Onto the writing front...I've fulfilled most of my own writing schedules for this year, and added getting book 2 finished in the Alien Hunger series before 2012 rolls around. I also managed to complete a short story of around 5500 words, for an anthology with my erotic loop. You'll hear lots more on that next year...

Speaking of next year, I have a whole new paranormal series planned (well, I have the characters in my head, the storyline is amazingly fuzzy) and hope to write 2 or maybe 3 of those books (more on that later...)

I also want to write the 3rd book for the Alien Hunger series, plus a couple of standalone books for Ellora's Cave, one of which is the very start of a book I began a few years ago.

And last but definitely not least, I'll finish the single title book I was so damn excited about, but which I've neglected far too long already! =))

And I'm so stoked to see Something Wicked This Way Comes, is in the top 100 romance on Amazon and hovering around the 500 best sellers in both Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Thank you readers!! *smiles*

Movie Marathon

I had a bit of a movie marathon yesterday with one of my daughter's and watched some great dvd's. (1$ Tuesday is always a great day for movie watching)

The first movie we watched was Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I loved this movie, the storyline was fantastic with the smarter than smart chimps injected with a new drug to make them even smarter to then uprise against humans and their cruelty. (But then I grew up watching these movies, and loving them.) ((8.5/10))

Next, we watched Bad Teacher. It was seriously funny - and not slapstick funny, it showed a dark kind of humor I can't help but enjoy. And I think Cameron Diaz was brilliant in this one as the teacher who cares more about the expense of a pair of big breasts she thinks she needs than she does about her students. ((7.5/10))

Hanna was dvd number three. I'd been wanting to watch this one for a while, about a genetically enhanced young girl trained like an elite soldier by her 'dad' to fight and kill. It was different to many of the 'hollywood' movies and to me felt more like an European style of movie. ((7.5/10))

And then who could go past the Lion King - well Miss four couldn't!

All in all it was a great day to treat the muse - and I even managed to write another couple of thousand words on book 2 in the Alien Hunger series :)

Movie of the Month

Okay, so this movie - Equilibrium - isn't a new release (2002) and mightn't be to everybody's taste, but I really enjoyed watching this for the first time last night. (Comparable to The Matrix).
I totally loved Christian Bale's role, and though he reminded me at times of Tom Cruise - in my eyes he's a much MUCH better hero.
I really liked the storyline, which had the hero and his lethal army of men killing off any humans who show emotion and who refuse to let go of any of their possessions, the same humans who are supposedly at risk of creating another war, which no one would survive.
Bale is the top dog, assigned to get rid of these humans without question. But then he begins to question the logic of the drug all the humans have to inject themselves with to numb themselves to emotion. When he stops using the drug all together, he soon discovers all he's missed out on and joins the very people he once killed.
Though he had an unworldly skill as an assassin (you may have to suspend belief) he has to protect his son and daughter, and then goes to great lengths to protect a pooch who adopts him as an owner...
Totally loved this movie =)

I'm a bit of a country girl at heart and so of course I had a great time at my brother's farm, 220 acres of big green hills with creeks that were overflowing big time when I got there (left my car at his neighbor's for a day.)
He had half a dozen cows having calves, in fact one was born half an hour before we got there and tottering around. He's got a few goats that hang out with the horses or cows to help protect them from dingos and wild dogs - since their Maremma 'guard' dog hangs out at the house lol!
My brother's always been mechanical and creative, and can turn his hand to anything. He built his own home from his own timber, a big games room and an amazing octagonal pergola with gorgeous views for having bbq's. (and damn it, I don't think I have a photo!)
While I was there I managed to outline a whole new series (will speak of that at a later date when it's actually started lol)! I guess being away from the house and relaxed really sets free the creative juices =)

Holidays!

I'm off to NSW tomorrow, inland from Gloucester and Taree on my 13 hour or so car trek to my brother's. He lives on a fairly remote slice of land with his wife and son, some dogs/horses/cats, too many snakes and a whole lot of cattle.
It seems to be a UFO hotspot lately (he's woken to fierce bright lights. And his wife, who is a nurse and works nights, had a UFO/light speed up behind her car and then half overtake her before disappearing from sight) but I must say I really don't want to see one of those unidentified flying objects *g* -- paranormal writer or not!! (If you'd seen the movie The Fourth Kind, supposedly based on real footage, you'd understand my reluctance!)
Besides which I've had my fair share of paranormal 'stuff' happen. I've had ghostly encounters in the past, plus lived in a haunted house in my teen years -- wasn't fun! So I'm pretty happy to get on with my own existence and problems, thank you very much!! LOL
On a 'safe' topic, fuel in QLD is around 1.55 a litre for premium (gulp) - it will be interesting to see how the V6 turbo fares on the long drive. And did I mention I'm taking Miss four, Miss 'almost' 14 and my mum along for the drive? (my poor husband is stuck working again!)
I couldn't be a truck driver - those long hours really wear you down. But I do love long distance driving once every now and then. I used to drive on my own from Sydney to Gympie and back in the days when it used to take around 15 hours one way-- did it once while having to stop and breastfeed my (then) baby =)

I love shifters and paranormal romance. This great little novella was at the hot end of the spectrum when it came to sexy books I'm comfortable reading...which is not a bad thing ;)

Most of all I enjoyed the intriguing use of the black big cat sightings in Australia. Cryptozoology is fascinating and this twist used it well.

Chaos is my Middle Name!! And Update!

It's been a frantic month (great way to lead up to Christmas!!?) with my eldest daughter pregnant and just out of hospital and me babysitting my gorgeous grandson, right along with the normal 'chaos' that seems to be my life lol!!

Somewhere in between all that I've started book 2 of the Alien Hunger series - and really loving it! I believe the majority of readers will enjoy this story, and I really can't wait to send this baby off - though it's only around halfway finished. I've also been working on a short story for an erotic anthology with some other Aussie writers (more on that at a later date) and reworking an old story - turning what I'd originally wrote as a Desire into an erotic paranormal (gulp gulp - why do I do these things to myself!!!) I'll probably work on that one today.

Now it's close to December I'm really going to have to think about digging up my 'writing wish list' that I had hoped to achieve this year and see how I've fared...

Where the hell has the time gone anyway!!!!????

Great Reads

I haven't posted about anything I've read for ages, but I really have to say I'm loving Kresley Cole's 'A Hunger Like No Other.' The characters are so different - well unless we're generalizing I will say the hero (Lachlain) is tortured. The heroine (Emmaline) is totally NOT kick-ass (yes, you heard right! Though I love kick ass, on this occasion her fear is skilfully woven through the storyline). I think what I like the most about this book is that Emmaline doesn't want to be with Lachlain, while he most definitely wants to be with her. Makes for some great conflict. (5 stars)

Although I had the Charlaine Harris series of books well before the DVD's, I've watched 3 seasons of True Blood before deciding to begin my reading marathon and starting with book 1: Dead Until Dark. It's made me realize (at least so far) how true to the books True Blood has stayed, but I am kind of wishing I'd read first and then watched the DVD's. It does make for some interesting research though. (3.5 stars)

This is book 8 in JR Ward's, Black Dagger Brotherhood. She's an incredible writer and I couldn't wait to read John Matthew's pov. I really enjoyed it, but I have to say I found her earlier books more romantic and these later ones much darker. Not sure why, but I found myself enjoying the romance better. Totally adored Dark Lover, still one of my all time favorite reads. Still, an amazing book by an amazing author (4 stars)

I did buy batteries for Shannon's new camera, but that camera was left in her suitcase all day lol!!! Best laid plans and all that.

We had a great time, met quite a few of the stars in the foyer of the hotel we stayed at (and let me say, Colin Morgan from Merlin was one hot, charismatic - and nice - guy!) And supanova itself - really great. Plenty of costumes, though my fav would have been the costume/face of Freddy Kreuger.

Shan bought Tracey O'hara's (our roomie) latest book Death's Sweet Embrace and had it autographed, as well as two books from Keri Arthur's latest series, autographed too. (Tracey took a couple of shots of us three, plus Shannon with Keri, will have to get her to send them along)

Aside from Spending the day at Supernova, Shannon spent all my pittance lol on clothes shopping and some great restaurants, including Jo Jo's (their cookies and cream cocktail was just YUM).

Now it's time to get back into routine and WRITE =)))

As some of you might know, Galactic Burn - the first book of my Alien Hunger series, has been getting *very* mixed reviews. Some hate it enough to give it a 1 star, others apparently love it (thank you to those readers!!! lol) So I was relieved to say the least, with this one's first review (4 stars)

Lillian has no idea who she is. After waking up in the woods, she finds that she can't remember anything about herself but she does know an alien when she sees one. Actually, a gorgeous hunk of alien with the promise of two more who will join him. A virus has killed all of the males and most of the females on Earth. An alien civilization was also decimated by the same virus but only the men survived on that planet. Dar, Ezra and Maddox are the only surviving royals from their world. They have found their mate in Lillian. However, just as they bond, Lillian's returning memories may destroy their love before it truly begins.
This story is one sexy romp from start to finish. The plot is a bit far-fetched but you really don't care as the sex scenes burn up the pages. It's easy to submerse yourself in the sensual aura. Each of the three men approaches Lillian differently. The author is really writing three different love stories and that makes for very interesting reading. I thought the story ended rather abruptly and I would really like to know what happens next. I sure would welcome another story or two based in this world. If you're looking for something erotic and steamy, then I suggest you give this one a try.

I was totally caught by this amazing cover, particularly on discovering THE SIDHE PRINCESS, a 14k contemporary paranormal by Loucinda McGary, is a self-published prequel to her published novel THE WILD SIGHT. (Yes, I have a thing for the covers of self-published books at the moment *g*)
I have yet to read this story, which is drawn from Irish folklore and mythology - but it sounds fascinating!

This hadn’t been Moira’s first stay in the sanitarium. No, that had happened over three years ago, the spring before she’d turned thirteen, and that time had been far worse. The visions or hallucinations or whatever they were had never happened to her before. At least not with such intensity, and telling the truth was never going to set her free of the horrid place.

Fee had been the one to tell her that revelation, and advise her to hide pills under her tongue and spit them out later. Just as Fee had been the only one who believed the creatures Moira saw and heard were real, not some sickness in her mind.

This go round, Moira had been far wiser to the doctors and nurses and their ways, and she’d only been forced to stay three months. The fact that her sister had visited almost every Sunday afternoon, her day off, helped too.

But Fee was gone now, far away across the pond in the city of Philadelphia, and Moira was back in County Armagh on the old homestead – the place of her torment. As she emptied her battered old satchel and put her few things away in the single bureau, she gazed out the only small window in the attic room.

Outside beyond the ragged edge of the back yard and the weed choked meadow lay the misty expanse of the fens. The thickly overgrown brush and gnarled trees that obscured the shores of Lough Neagh seemed to beckon to her, at the same time enticing and sinister. People in the village whispered tales about the fens, of strange goings on and how some folks who went in never came out.

How many times had Mum told her and Fee that the fens were dangerous? That they shouldn’t play there? But of course they did anyway. And when she was thirteen, Moira discovered the creatures from another realm lived there. Strange, beautiful and wild beings that appeared for her alone. Her mistake had been talking about them.

She knew it would only be a matter of time before she succumbed to their siren call, and the madness that awaited her within them would send her back to the hated, sterile confines of the sanitarium.

Nine days later, she first saw the new apparition. Mum and Da went off on their usual Saturday shopping expedition, and Moira elected to stay home alone.

Though Mum looked worried, Da actually took Moira’s side. “She’s not a wee lass any more, Mary,” he scolded. “You don’t need her right by your side every waking moment.”

He’d given Moira a wink behind her mother’s back when they climbed into the ancient farm truck that was their only means of transportation. With hearty calls of “Be home for tea!” they rumbled off in a cloud of dust.

The day was far too fine to stay inside ironing, so a couple of hours later, Moira slipped her little yellow transistor radio into her apron pocket and went outside to simply enjoy the sweet autumn sunshine. Even if she felt relief at coming and going as she pleased, she did feel oddly alone after the constant voices and presence of the staff and patients in the sanitarium. Not that she missed the place, far from it!

She missed her sister.

On the radio, the Beatles crooned about “…please me like I please you…” and she sang along. But by the end of the song, the signal was fading. She turned the radio off and wished she’d asked Mum to pick up new batteries while she and Da were out.

As she slid the radio back into her pocket, her fingers brushed over Fiona’s letter. Moira had already read it more than once. In fact, she’d given Mum her reply to mail in the village today. But she walked over to the stump at the edge of the yard to read the letter yet another time.

Something about the letter wasn’t right. It wasn’t so much the things Fee wrote, but more like what she hadn’t. Moira couldn’t shake an uneasy feeling that not all was well. However, she also knew Fee wouldn’t say anything for fear of worrying Mum and Da.

The thin onion-skin paper rattled like the waxy stuff wrapped around the fancy scones that came from the village bakery. Moira smoothed the folded sheets across her lap and read Fee’s sprawling script, heard her voice in the written words as she described the crazy city traffic all going in the wrong direction. The Richardsons had a brand new Lincoln Town Car and Mrs. Richardson intended to buy herself a car too, as soon as she found one to her liking.

Moira closed her eyes and imagined what it must be like to be so rich you owned two new cars and a fine house so big that your three children each had a bedroom and the nanny had one too. While she pictured the lovely wall-papered room Fee had described, the sound of childish laughter invaded Moira’s daydream. Her eyes popped open and she scanned the brushy border of the fens, catching a glimpse of a white figure.

“Who’s there?” Moira cried, shoving the letter back into her pocket and jumping to her feet.

The fens could be a dangerous place for a child, full of boggy spots and stickery piles of brambles, as Mum had never failed to tell her. But as Moira crossed the over-grown expanse of the meadow and drew closer to the fens, she heard the giggling again. A scrap of doubt tugged at her mind, making her hesitate. Something about the sound wasn’t childish. Or even human.

While she paused, the being came into view. Small as a child of nine or ten and clad in a long gown of gauzy white, the girl’s golden hair streamed behind her, strands of it braided around bird feathers or woven into bits of metal or bright colored beads. Her skin was almost the same shade as her hair, like rich honey, and when she stopped to regard Moira, her dark eyes shone with the same flecks of gold.

One of the fae, Moira guessed, and the most exquisite wee thing she’d ever seen.

“You can see me as well as hear me, can you not?” asked the small woman. The proud way she stood and the commanding tone she used were not the least bit childlike.

Moira nodded mutely and twisted her hands into her apron. ‘Twas not the first time she’d seen and even spoken to other-worldly creatures, though never before had one been so bold in approaching her. Nor so beautiful.

Movie of the Month...

I'm not a huge Robert Pattinson fan - or Reese Witherspoon for that matter, but somehow these two really gelled in this movie WATER FOR ELEPHANTS and seemed a perfect fit for their parts. Totally adored the majestic elephant and its role in the movie - it was all too easy to get caught up in the drama of the story and feel a hatred for the circus owner and his treatment of his animals (grrrrr!!)
Probably one of those dvd's you have to be in the right mood to watch, but one I definitely recommend =)

Writing Update...

While I'm wishing I had the funds to join the many EC authors and readers who are preparing for this weekend's Romanticon, I'm salving my wounds *g* by putting the final touches to the edits of my 3rd book in the Winged & Dangerous series, Red-Hot Lover. It should have a release date very soon.

I'm also happy to announce that volume 1 of the 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' anthology, with my story Dragon Heat, will be released this Halloween (end of October).

I've been very slowly reworking a favorite story of mine that was originally a contemporary. The hero is an artist and he's also now a vampire. Yes, I've come to the realization that converting it is sooo much harder than starting a story from scratch, but I do think it will be worth it in the end.

I've also been working on Dimensional and loving it! It's a little bit eerie and different, and hopefully thought provoking. Aside from that story I've started on Galactic Inferno, the 2nd book to my Alien Heat series - another story I'm loving!

Last but not least, I wrote most of the first scene of a story set in historical fantasy times. This one has a heroine who is selected to be part of a harem. Not sure where this is heading yet, but will mull the story over until I'm able to get back to it - hopefully soon...

Movie of the Month...

I really enjoyed this movie for a number of reasons - its unique twist and thought provoking ideas, which seemed a great way to spark off any writers creative well =)

A great cast, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan, it's an action thriller story about a soldier (helicopter pilot) waking up on a train, in the body of another man. He's about to discover he has to find not only the bomber - but a bomb that has already killed all the people on board.

I've decided to do a catch up on one of my favourite authors J.R. Ward, and though The Black Dagger Brotherhood is by far my fav series, I still want to read the Fallen Angels series - and check out her other pseudonym too (Jessica Bird) which I've been meaning to do for ages... And just so it's not a complete J.R Ward blitz, I grabbed a Kresley Cole novel too.

Brief update...

~While I'm waiting on the edits for my 3rd gargoyle novel in the Winged & Dangerous series, I have sent off the contract and can not wait to see what cover the brilliant art dept come up with!

~Now that I know I've made it into the Something Wicked This Way Comes anthology, I'm eagerly awaiting news of its release date. And yes, my first (eventual) print book!!!! And my only dragon hero so far =)

~Hopefully some more publishing news soon, but in the meantime I'm still trying to get myself back into the writing mode after feeling like a deflated balloon the last few weeks - anyone got one of those Limitless pills, by chance??? BWG

Well it was a FULL ON three days at the online Claytons Conference and everyone was exhausted by the end of it, but from all reports it was a resounding success! =)
I'll be posting on Friday at the Lovecats about the experience and a bit of an overview. Hope to see you there! ...in the meantime... life intrudes and banal things like housework scream for attention, yes, it needs catching up on big time, oh, and I intend lavishing some attention on my kids!!!!

LIMITLESS

Okay, this movie had me from the moment the hero was a contracted writer - who was struggling to type even one word. Then he meets his ex-brother-in-law and things start looking up...or down, depending on your perspective, from there. He's given an illegal pill called NZT-48 - and he's gone from the usual brain power percentage (darn it, what is that percentage again???LOL) to using the full one hundred percent capacity.

I won't give the whole story away, but needless to say, being THAT smart apparently clues you in on fighting techniques, recalls long repressed information that suddenly makes sense, and gives you musical abilities in just hours of practise. Putting it like that is sounds kinda corny and silly, but it all came together brilliantly - as long as you're comfortable with the pill popping benefits this movie almost justifies...

As the Romance Writers of Australia conference draws near, those of us not attending look forward instead to the online Claytons conference!
We've got some fantastic presenters including editors from Ellora's Cave and Samhain, authors such as Tracey O'hara, Eleni Konstantine, Diane Gaston, Michelle Diener, Anna Hackett, Erica Hayes, Natalie Anderson, Sami Lee and Darlene Gardener (phew!!) - and some great writing challenges which include blurbs, synopsis' and short stories. (I'll be looking after the blurbs and short story crits)
This will be an amazing online experience for any RWAus member who wants to participate, and one that *almost* makes up for not attending the real conference. There are lots of cool book prizes, and it will be FUN!!! (And did I mention it's FREE!)
I'm really looking forward to meeting the 50 odd participants =))

To Do List

At the beginning of the year I had a To Do List, writing related things I really wanted to achieve for 2011. Well the year is half over and I felt compelled to go back and see how I was fairing!! Not too badly so far..but could be better.

Here's my list - and responses so far (will have to update at end of year)

Finish my co-authored single title, Believe, find an agent and a contract (All finished. I've sent a Query Letter to some agents, but have to do some more research and send out to some more.)

Write and publish the last novella of my gargoyle series, Winged & Dangerous. (Revising that right now)

Release another Bites story for 2011, and perhaps write a series. (I eventually wrote a Cravings - which is now elsewhere. I'm 7k into another story that should be more suitable!)

Finish my Ellora's Cave ms tentativly titled "Brothers of the Otherworld". (This one is released on the 15th of this month and renamed Galactic Burn. Very excited!)

Start work again on my single title ms "Dimensional" I began early 2010 (Had a very short bout on this book, really itching to start on it again soon)

Rework Shadow Hunter, which has been sitting idly since those comp wins/finals, and decide where it belongs, if anywhere. (This was my first ms and I'm not sure it fits anywhere without extensive work...might have to put off this one for another year *g*)

Choose one of my many 'just started' projects from over the years, and finish it!! (I found a really cool chapter of an old ms that should make a great Cravings or EC story and am 7k in...*see above*)

I'm so excited to announce July 15th is the release date of my short alien novel GALACTIC BURN. (click title to read excerpt) This one is written under the line Futuristic/SciFi, so it's a little bit different to the paranormal and contemporary stories I've had published so far (not to mention the two extra heroes...)

In all seriousness though, it's a great place to check out what your friends are reading (you befriend people just like you do on facebook) and what ratings they are giving books - it's a fantastic way to see recommendations and read reviews.
It's also where some of my own books have been read and rated (oh, the addiction! LOL).

Time Out in Fiji

I had such a great time in Fiji with my 2 eldest daughters and my mum, it was *wonderful*. The Outrigger was a gorgeous resort, the local people so very friendly *BULA*!!!!!!!!!!

Since I'm obviously so SWEET (g) Maree Anderson nominated me for this award. Yes, yes, I know, she's obviously had four too many whiskey's on the rocks, but hey, who am I to complain! Thanks so much Maree!! (there rule number 1 of this blog award thingy done *tick*)

Now, apparently all I have to do is share seven random facts about myself. Here we go:

~ I was once a vegetarian, and still eat very little meat.
~ I first started writing for the presents line of harlequin, before paranormal writing swept me up in its loving wings.
~ I love wearing comforatable clothes, aka track pants/sweats and baggy t's. Particularly while writing.
~ I am a great procrastinator. If there's any form of distraction, I've found it. I have to be very focused when I'm on the computer, hence the reason I often write freehand, much quicker!!
~ I love animals, especially cats and horses. Dolphins and whales also fascinate me.
~ I have three girls of very widespread ages. 21, 13 and almost 4. I also have three stepchildren (yes, this house has been very noisy and busy) and one grandchild.
~ My pet hate is 'whingers' or people who complain about their lot in life. (do something about it!)

Happy to say Galactic Burn, now has a series title too: Alien Hunger. Not sure yet how many books this series will have, guess it will be up to the readers how far it goes (or...doesn't!)

Speaking of series, I've almost wrapped up book 3 of my Winged & Dangerous gargoyle series. I do have some ideas for a book 4, but just not sure if I'll go ahead with that at this stage.

I do have a couple of other books out in the blue yonder, but won't make comment on them until I hear some news. Fingers crossed it's good news!

I was lucky enough to get another nice reveiw (and 4 hoots) for Moon Thrall today, this one from Rebecca of Nocturne Romance Reads

This is her review:

At the start of Moon Thrall, I didn’t like Elyse’s character. She was weak, and way too cautious, but after reading more, all that faded away. Anyone would have acted the way Elyse had if they had been trapped under Caleb Marsden, Elyse’s ex-fiancé, for the past five years.

Once Elyse changes into a werewolf for the first time, and meets Dane, there is no slowing this book down. I was amazed by Elyse’s transition, how she gave herself over to her animal instincts emotionally, physically, mentally, and sexually. Moon Thrall is a fun ride through the Australian Outback you will not soon forget.

Happy to say my alien book has been accepted by Ellora's Cave - Yay!!!!! And the title for this one: Gallactic Burn.
The relief on the acceptance of this one is *huge* as it's so very different to my usual novels. I really really love reading and writing a one heroine/one hero type of book--even better if there's a villain thrown in trying to snare the heroine for himself! But this one--three alien heroes and one heroine...yeah, right out of the box and yet another writing challenge for me.
I can only hope the readers out there appreciate the storyline (and yes, there *is* a reason for the unusual pairing).

Carnal Moon was an exceptional novella. With a lot of paranormal romance, it is not uncommon for me to figure out the path of the plot early and go with the flow until the end, and this book was really no different. I expected the outcome to some extent and was not surprised by the ending of the book. I was lucky enough to win a copy of Maree Anderson's latest e-book SCENT OF A MAN, which was the first time I'd read her work. It was seriously good, just loved the world building, the characters and the author's voice. I did a review for her and thought it'd be cool to post here as well...

I admit, I love stories set in Australia. Add a paranormal element, and I am a fan. This novella kept me rapidly reading from the first page to the last sentence. It flows smoothly while being fast-paced. Caleb, particularly, stood out for me. He is a character I loved to hate. This book is the first I have read by this author and I look forward to reading more. Ms. Teshco seems to have a knack for stringing just the right words together so that an indelible image is seared into the mind of the reader - a wonderful gift.

Thelma & Louise

I watched Thelma and Louise last night, and was reminded once again why I love this movie. It's not just the amazingly un-happily ever after ending, (depending on your perspective) it's the quiet times where you can see them each reflect the changes that have happened to them, the realization there is no going back for either one of them, even if it were possible.
It really is an emotional journey, a personal growth that is so inappropriate on so many levels but so so plausible you can't help but cheer when they blow up the tanker, or when they rob the shop - and especially when Thelma has her sexual enlightenment with a very young, and very lean Brad Pitt. The latter is even more poignant knowing of her past with her arrogant, swine of a husband and her sexual assault at the hands of another man she meets at a bar.

Though I never consciously thought about Thelma and Louise when I began to write my free short read, DISCOVERING SOFIA, I realized I had in some ways based my characters on the movie: the sexy, young hitchhiker in the cowboy hat, the abused woman with her inadequacies and emotional pain.

I guess I like watching movies that push the envelope a little, just as I like writing characters that are a little out there =))

Seeking Camera Advice!

My daughter is desperate for a camera, and has her heart set on a digital SLR. Okay, I know nothing about camera's -- except to point and click. Any advice on what camera would be great for a budding photographer on a budget, around the 200 dollar mark, and something reliable? (unlike my last cheapie digital camera that drained even the most expensive batteries, turned on or off)
