I really enjoyed this movie, despite the ho hum ratings. John, an alien disguised as a human - John Smith - is running away from other aliens who want to kill him and the few left of his race. The aliens have just killed Number three, and John is next on the list. He does of course fall in love with an earth girl, which threatens his existence. He has a guardian who helps protect him, and a dog who adopts him. And he begins to uncover powers which wouldn't be a bad skill to have =)

I'm currently reading and enjoying the book. I too had heard the so-so reviews and so have put off seeing the movie....

I would actually probably give it an 8 out of 10, but then maybe I was just in the mood for this kind of movie? Have the book too, but yet to read it =)
